A team led by scientist Duncan Hand from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, UK, used ultraviolet laser to engrave microstructured holograms directly on the surface of metal parts to create anti-counterfeiting hologram labels.
The kilohertz industrial laser can precisely melt the metal surface locally, thereby generating smooth optical patterns on the metal surface.
